Procast Group has started work on an affordable housing project in Hamilton on behalf of West of Scotland Housing Association, delivering 12 new energy-efficient flats in the town’s Alness Street as part of the project.

The principal contractor, also based on Alness Street, is creating 12 much-needed spacious two-bedroom apartments. The development also includes innovative, energy-efficient features including solar panels and 12 associated parking spaces enabled with EV charging points.

A communal garden to encourage community spirit will also be incorporated into the build.

West of Scotland Housing Association is a well-established presence in Hamilton providing over 170 affordable homes in the area, as well as a further 700 homes across South Lanarkshire.

The Alness Street site – which will be known as Mitchell Court upon completion— follows the completion of WSHA’s redevelopment of former St Andrews Church site in Hamilton which completed in 2023 and will deliver a further 12 homes for social rent close to the town centre.

The project is expected to be completed early in 2025.

Derek Innes, managing director for Procast Group, said: “The Alness Street project is directly adjacent to our offices so it’s a particularly special one for us to be able to bring forward for our clients - West of Scotland Housing Association.

“We are delivering 12 high-quality, energy efficient homes fit for the future which we believe residents will truly love. We are hugely passionate about creating warm, energy efficient homes that are built for today’s living and equipped for the needs of tomorrow. The development in Hamilton will really invigorate this area of the town and deliver much-needed affordable homes, especially in the current climate.

“We have very much enjoyed working with West of Scotland Housing Association and look forward to further opportunities to work with them again in the future.”

Andrew Kubski, director of development and asset management at West of Scotland Housing Association, said: “The location of this site is perfect for the town centre amenities of Hamilton, close to our recent development on John Street and our existing stock on Low Waters Road.

“This development also helps consolidate our town centre community and provides broader choice for our tenants. This is the second time we have worked with Procast Group on a major contract in recent months and is our first new build with their team, which is progressing well. Together we are focused on providing the best outcome for our tenants.”
