Job Title: Business Development Manager

Reporting to: Managing Director

Based at: East Kilbride

Job Purpose

The generation and development of inbound and outbound new business opportunities, establish and maintain relationships with key clients and generate new business in line with the akp business plan.         

Key Responsibilities
Health and Safety
    • Maintain and adhere to all Health and Safety and emergency systems according to Company Policy and relevant law 

People
    • Develop and manage internal and external relationships with clients, subcontractors and akp staff
    • Demonstrate commitment to the company at all times

Role
    • Maintain, update and develop the act data base, and update relevant information held in the system to maximise tool  
    • Research and identify new business opportunities - including new markets, growth areas, trends, customers, partnerships, products and services - or new ways of reaching existing markets
    • Seek out the appropriate contact in an organisation
    • Generate leads and cold call prospective customers
    • Meet with customers/clients face-to-face or over the phone
    • Foster and develop relationships to generate repeat business as well as finding new opportunities
    • Think strategically - seeing the bigger picture and setting aims and objectives in order to develop and improve the business and reach new audiences
    • Work strategically - carrying out necessary planning in order to implement operational changes
    • Lead on and support bid-writing for new grants and contracts where appropriate
    • Have a good understanding of the businesses’ products or services and be able to advise others about them
    • Ensure staff are on board throughout the organisation, and understand the need for change and what is required of them
    • Train members of your team, arranging external training where appropriate
    • Liaise with the finance team, warehousing and logistics departments as appropriate
    • Seek ways of improving the way the business operates
    • Research and attend seminars, conferences and events to build your business’s network and profile
    • Plan and carry out local marketing activities to agreed budget and timescales
    • Respond to and follow up sales enquiries using appropriate methods, responsible for own lead generation and appointment setting
    • Monitor and report on market activities and provide relevant reports and information
    • Record, analyse, report and administer according to systems and requirements
    • Respond to PQQ’s, tenders and requests in a timely manner 
    • Communicate, liase and negotiate internally and externally using appropriate methods to facilitate the development of profitable business and sustainable relationships
    • Attend and present at external customer meetings and internal meetings 
    • Develop enquiries from first consultative visit to PQQ, tender and close with assistance from Contracts and Commercial departments

Qualifications & Skills: 
    • Business relevant degree is desirable but not essential 
    • Strong networking capability
    • Experience of and contacts within the Scottish Construction Industry
    • Excellent written, oral communication and presentation skills
    • Understanding of commercial matters
    • Ability to work on own initiative
    • Computer literate
    • Commercial awareness
    • Organisational skills
    • Experienced people manager
    • Experience in Technical/Pre-Con
