Transport Scotland has appointed Raeburn Drilling & Geotechnical Ltd to undertake the ground investigations as part of the design work to identify a preferred route option for the long term solution for the A83 at the Rest and Be Thankful.

A new £1.1 million catch-pit has been completed at the Rest and Be Thankful to provide additional resilience to the A83. Approximately 120m long and around 12m wide, the catch-pit is capable of holding around 4,500 tonnes of debris material from a potential landslip.

Transport Scotland has unveiled its preferred long-term solution to the landslip-plagued A83 Rest and Be Thankful road as well as "major progress" on additional short and medium term plans.

Argyll and Bute Council has recommended that the Scottish Government takes forward the first of 11 options to address landslide issues at the A83 Rest and Be Thankful following a consultation by Transport Scotland.
