A Perthshire tradesman has hung up his tools after clocking up 50 years with a well-known family business. Plasterer Alan Shand took up an apprenticeship with Scone-based building firm Allan Robertson and Son after leaving school in 1974.

A Scottish family building firm is toasting its centenary. Allan Robertson and Son has been based in the Perthshire village of Scone since the founder opted to go it alone in direct opposition to a slater and plasterers' business being run by his father.
