Glasgow's bid to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games could accelerate major housing developments and spearhead regeneration in the area, according to city MSP Paul Sweeney. The sporting tournament was due to be held in Victoria but the Australian state pulled out last year over rising costs.

Regeneration agency Clyde Gateway hopes to follow up on the widespread interest created by the 2014 Commonwealth Games by launching a search for new investors at MIPIM’s UK property show in London later this week.
